Richard Westney is widely recognized as a thought leader, strategic advisor, and problem solver for executives, investors, and project managers engaged in the development and delivery of capital projects in the energy sector. He is the founder of Westney Consulting Group, ranked among the top five Capital Projects and Infrastructure consulting firms and acquired by McKinsey & Company in 2019.

Since 2019, Mr. Westney’s consulting work has been as a director of R/MW Consulting, Inc., a Houston-based firm focused on the challenges faced by owner/operators, investors, and engineering & construction contractors engaged in capital projects in the energy sector.

R/MW’s proprietary Planet-Centric PM ® methodology includes Project Resilience Planning, Project ESG Planning, and Independent Project Reviews for large, complex energy projects such as LNG, offshore production facilities, pipelines, and process plants, as well as renewables such as hydropower, solar, and HVDC subsea transmission.

Mr. Westney’s decades of experience in every aspect of energy sector projects have provided the basis for his six books on project management – the most recent of which is The ESG Planning Guide for Energy Projects, a Step-by-Step Process for Project Managers and Teams to Meet Environmental, Social, and Governance Goals. He has also shared his industry insights in construction executive programs at Texas A&M, Stanford, and Rice Universities, as well as at The University of Texas, The Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and Moscow School of Management.
